The NBA season is officially underway (unless you live in Chicago or Milwaukee).

He single-handedly catapulted the Philadelphia 76ers to their Finals thrashing in 2001, and if he were to retire during practice tomorrow, he would finish with the fourth highest points per game average in history behind only Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain and LeBron James (if you’re ready to count James after only 431 games). But the 2009 All-Star selection shouldn’t be based on what Iverson has done in his career, it should be based upon what he has done in the 2009 season, and this season’s numbers are not All-Star quality.

The Denver Nuggets did the right thing in getting rid of Allen Iverson.  They never should have traded for Iverson to begin with.  Iverson is one of the most overrated basketball players in the history of the NBA.  The Pistons are sure to suffer and lose all hope of any run to a title.

and sexy, but i still see plenty of problems that could hamper them down the road this year.

The Philadelphia 76ers, to me, seem to be in the same place as the Raptors.  They are in slightly better shape than Toronto, as they were able to fill a big hole by signing Elton Brand without having to give up a valuable piece of the puzzle in return.  Adding Brand is absolutely huge, as it gives Philly a reliable low post scorer, rebounding, defense and toughness, provided Brand's achilles shows no signs of lingering damage.  Brand is a seasoned veteran who should also provide leadership to what is still a very young team.

not to say that they're a bad team, however it is worth noting that the Pistons already lost to the Philadelphia 76ers at home this postseason, and were it not for some poor officiating and homer timekeepers, the Pistons could have very well dropped a game to the Orlando magic in round two.  Add to that the fact that the Celtics beat the Pistons convincingly twice in Detroit and the future seems perhaps a bit brighter in Boston.
