Derek Fisher

9 November 2009

In 35 minutes of play, Derek Fisher was unable to accumulate a single point, rebound, or assist in the Lakers overtime win over the Rockets.

Surely that has to be some sort of record, right? It’s not possible for a starter to go the entire game and not register any stats, is it?

Lets recap: Magic cling to a three-point lead with seconds remaining. Derek Fisher brings the ball across half-court. Nelson, who by this point should have lodged his way into Fisher's shorts, inexplicably remains behind the three point line with a disarming did-I-leave-the-gas-on? expression clouding his face. Fisher takes full advantage of Nelson's ill-timed moment of self-reflection and nails the game-tying three, forcing the game into an overtime period and causing Stan Van Gundy to lose a lung on the sideline. Mother..

ve Mamba and his Lakers a taste of their own venom, drilling a 20-foot jumper while being fouled by Derek Fisher (the same Derek Fisher that memorably sunk San Antonio in Game 5 of the 2004 Western Conference Finals? Yup.).

Keving Garnet brought it tonight. So did Rajon Rondo and Derek Fisher. Ray Allen was also big tonight. Sasha Vujacic was a pest to Ray Allen, it was really funny watching Vajacic chase him arou

I like to call this years NBA Finals “Star-Studded”:

Point Guard (Derek Fisher vs. Rajon Rondo) Derek Fisher has been through it all with the Lakers. He already has 3 rings under his belt and he’s been in these NBA Finals before. He is also still pretty good defensively. On the other hand, Rajon Rondo has been running Boston Celtics the whole season and through the playoffs. He knows he will have to use his speed to his advantage. He will be getting into transition and slashing to the hole all day. He will have no problem keeping up with the not so fast

This NBA Finals will be the most watched Finals in a couple years. I myself have not watched any in quite a few years since the Spurs and Pistons were so frequently in them. No offense to them but they are just not exciting teams to watch. I would much rather watch Kobe light up the Celts great D for 50 points or the Big Three of Boston. Tim Duncan is just not an exciting player to watch. Not only are the teams fun to watch but each of the matchups are interesting:

be Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen at the very least.  Rondo is so much quicker than Derek Fisher that he should be in the paint every time he drives the ball, ditto for Ray Allen as long as Kobe isn't guarding him.  As for KG, he should focus on being as aggressive as possible and going right at Gasol, Turiaf, Odom and whomever else the Lakers throw at him, using his length, quickness and arsenal of post moves to get some easy shot opportunities.

wo GMs, in this case Mitch Kupchak, who was responsible for building the Lakers' supporting cast of Derek Fisher, Lamar Odom, Sasha Vujacic and Vladimir Radmanovic, and Chris Wallace, who was responsible for gift wrapping Pau Gasol for Los Angeles (seriously, Pau for Kwame Brown, there should be an investigation into that robbery).
