It would make for a much more entertaining bout. If that's not allowed, he should fight David Stern, for the right to make a new rule that would allow Kobe to WHOOP HIS BUTT during the next Lakers-Rockets game. Because that needs to happen. I love Kobe for being professional, except when he stays at Colorado resorts, but in this case, let's play some street-ball. Artest has a right to defend getting elbowed, except when he runs after Kobe trying to start something, with that crazy look in his eye like he's at the Palace again. Everyone put your plastic cups away...

ts continuing struggle to skirt the real issues and make token steps to cure an persistent problem, David Stern decided two years ago (when the league and Players Association were renegotiating the collective bargaining agreement of the NBA) they in order to protect young, vulnerable NBA talents from themselves (?) and the pitfalls of wealth, success and celebrity status, they should have one year of higher education to help them grow into fine young men in a collegiate environment.  I am absolutely not kidding about this, Stern actually expects these young players to a.) mature during their one year at college and b.) receive a valuable education somewhere in between practice, games, rallies, travel time and shooting various public service announcements designed to promote the image that most of the collegiate players have something besides sports to fall back on.

Ready to kick it old school?  David Stern is (kudos to anyone who sends me a photo of Stern wearing a track suit and break-dancing on a piece of cardboard), and so am I.  The Eastern Conference Finals gave us all a taste of the old school NBA rivalry between the Detroit Pistons and the Boston Celtics, and now we're fixed for a main course of only the choicest and most intense NBA rivalry in the history of the league.  That's right, we are headed towards a Lakers v. Celtics NBA Finals for the first time in 21 years, and I've got to admit (even though it's damaging to my masculinity) that I am giddy about the prospects of this match up.

mmer-lock on the series.  Similarly, if the Hawks hadn't had a 33-18 free throw advantage (did David Stern perhaps place a call and remind the refs that he likes competitive series, not yawners), the Celtics could have easily won last night.
