I’m looking over Sunday’s games for week 11 of the NFL and I am slightly bored. Seriously, I am struggling to find a compelling storyline to follow.
I love the NFL and have for years, yet I hardly care about one single game that will be played tomorrow.
The biggest game that jumps out at me would have to be the undefeated Tennessee Titans going into Jacksonville to play the Jaguars in what should be a tough division match up. The Titans may be undefeated, but what good is that if nobody is buying it.
Jacksonville is only 4-5 and 1-3 at home this season, yet they are mere three point underdogs in this game. On top of that the money is all moving on the Jags. To take the Jags and the three points, one would have to lay down $130 to win $100. This indicates that the general public believes the Jags will win this game.
Clearly, nobody thinks the Titans are really all that good, so what can their 9-0 record really mean? You might see a close, hard fought football game, which will certainly be entertaining, but you won’t be watching two truly great football teams. So, where can you turn if you want to watch a great football team?
How about the New York Giants? They are favored by a full touchdown to beat the Baltimore Ravens in New York. So, maybe the game won’t be all that close. Maybe we all know who will win, but maybe we should watch in hopes of seeing a great team play ball. The biggest problem I have with this idea is Eli Manning.
How can a football team really be great with a quarterback like Eli Manning? He is playing behind what many believe to be the best offensive line in football. His defense has perhaps the best line in football as well. They also have not one, but three great running backs to hand the ball to. His receiving threats are all over the field on every play, yet Eli only has a rating of 88.8.
I remember the days when a good quarterback had a rating around 100 for the season. The worst part about watching the Giants game would be listening to the commentators go on and on about how Eli’s experience in the Super Bowl last year has turned him into a better player. He is still the same Eli, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he threw one or two stupid interceptions tomorrow on the way to a Giants easy victory. Whatever happens, it is a game I could hardly bare to watch.
The Carolina Panthers have a great team, but they play the Detroit Lions and won’t even get tested.
The Miami Dolphins are improving and quite intriguing, but they play the Oakland Raiders, a team that probably couldn’t compete in Canada, let alone the NFL.
I could go down the list, but all we would find are teams with flaws, with gaping holes. One team has no defense, another has no quarterback. Parity in the NFL has robbed us of any one great football team to watch.
Who should win the Super Bowl this year? Who knows? Every team stinks.
I guess I will just map out which games have my fantasy players in them and watch those.
