Split Series for the Red Sox, but Still in First Place

The Red Sox went into Minnesota and lost the first and third games of the series and won the second; and then we took the fourth, so not bad for playing the Twins at their house. Four game series are always tough, especially away games because our relievers and everyday players don't get a night off.   Well, yesterday Beckett didn't need a day off; he came out steaming with his hat pulled down extra low looking really determined, and he was.  Beckett struck out the side in the first inning; he was steaming and looking nasty, then came out looking the same in the second and struck out Kubel, but then J. Crede hit a bomb of a home run.  I was shocked and started to get worried after that bomb, but that seemed to annoy Beckett even more and then he just closed them down for the rest of the game. He pitched seven innings, only allowing 3 hits, 1 earned run, and 8 strikeouts!!!!(That's a great line, and that's 2 starts in a row where Beckett  (now 5-2) looks like his old self... Sweet!)   So Minnesota only got 5 hits all game and the Sox only got 6, another slow game, but J. Varitek in the 5th inning hit a bomb of his own tying the game at 1-1 and with the way Beckett pitched and was pitching we just needed one more.  Who would step up for the Sox?  It would be Captain Varitek again in the 7th inning hitting his second home run of the game and then Bailey doubled and Pedroia sacrificed him in for an insurance run.   The Sox wouldn't need it or any more because Papelbon came in and closed the door for his 13th save of the year and giving the Sox 1st Place with the win 3-1!!!!!!!  Red Sox (28-20, the second best record in baseball behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and, as MIT would say, that's because Boston is in the hardest division, and I'd have to agree) are a half game up on Yankees and two up on Toronto where the Sox are headed to tonight, game time 7:07 pm, Wakefield (6-2) versus Janssen (0-1). This should be a good one; Wake is good in domes.  Get your Boston hat on and represent. Go Sox!
