When it comes to sports in Boston, we're title-town! The Boston Celtics' last game was exactly what Boston was waiting for and hopefully, the C's can put down the back-breaker on Sunday at 1:00!!! I firmly believe it's going to be the last nail in the Bulls' coffin, even though the Cs would still have to come home and win one more and then head to the second round. Time will tell if we'll be playing Orlando (2 seed)...they're down 2-1 against Philly.
Usually I only talk about the Cs, but when you live in title-town, even the most ardent basketball fan pays attention to the "other" sports. First, we have the mighty Bruins who are not only the number 1 seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs and the Bs just swept our biggest rivals, the Montreal Canadians, and they looked amazing doing it!!! So now the Bs wait to see who wins the Rangers vs Washington series which the Rangers lead 3-2. I think we not only can beat who ever wins that series, but I think the Bs have a great chance at the cup, and that would be sweeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!
Moving onto Sox Nation, they started out horrible with 2 wins out of 8 games, not good. But since then, the Red Sox have gone on fire winning 8 in a row including a unbelievable game on Friday night versus our other mighty rival, the hated New York Yankees! The Sox were down by 2 pretty much the whole game and when the Yanks brought in their famous closer (who Boston hates), M. Rivera, with a 4-2 lead, my home crowd, MIT, Dato, G, Bobafet, Hannah, the Reader and Jon all thought it was over. But the Professor stayed calm and reminded us, "I've seen us take him before, bet the Sox could do it again." Next thing you know there are 2 outs in the 9th, a man at 1st, and Jason Bay "Watch," our last hope, is the tying run at the plate. Then here comes a fastball and Bay knocks it over the monster to tie the game, amazing!!
Then Papelbon comes on, strikes out Teixeria (who turned down coming the Boston to go to NY) leading to the Sox main man Youkilis in the bottom of the 11th inning drilling this ball over the wall onto Lansdown St. giving the Sox an exciting walk off homer and an amazing victory with our 1st game versus the Yanks this year.
This should be an exciting year for the Sox who are looking strong except for Mr. David Ortiz who looks to be swinging a little slow so far and Dice-K who is on the 15 day DL with arm problems, but hopefully both will be back in form soon, and I see the Sox as the team to beat!!!!! Patriots' Nation is next, with the NFL draft yesterday and the Pats having 11 picks, it should be interesting to see how they use all these picks to make our team stronger. After watching every second last year and knowing Tom Brady's back, I believe that our weakness is at defense, so I look for the Pats to pick up Defensive players and to stack the D, but knowing Belichick and Kraft ,they have something up their sleeves, like always. Football season will be here before you know it!
Sorry b-ball fans to have digressed from talk of our beloved Celtics. But when you think about the sports in the city we live in, (oh yeah, forgot to mention that Boston University Hockey Team just took home their title and trophy), you have to know that for those of us who actually live in Boston, we have the distinct pleasure of knowing that winning, being number 1, is entirely within our reach.
BTW, Doc Rivers gave the players Friday off and had them right back to work yesterday to prepare for today. KG was shooting jumpers off his knee, and he looked great, but he was not driving to the hoop yet, so who knows how much pressure he can put on it. So let's keep up this pace and show the world why Boston is TITLE-TOWN!
