Poor Brett Favre...

Actually, no.

There are three certainties in life. You know the first two - death and taxes. The third? Every year, Brett Favre will create a media circus around his return to football.

I'll freely admit that he's a great quarterback. But if I have to listen to one more Brett Favre apologist calling this guy a "gunslinger" or an "everyman", that Denny's Grand Slam breakfast I just ate may end up being refunded.

Look, I honestly don't care whether Brett Favre plays or retires. He's probably still good enough to quarterback a decent team into the playoffs. But really, this is turning into a national crisis of epic proportions. ESPN has it's own line dedicated to Favre on its bottom line. Fox News booked an exclusive interview with Favre so that he could announce his intention to ask for a release. Every columnist in the western world has weighed in with his/her opinion. Hell, I'm contributing to the very cause I'm asking for a cessation to.

Can we stop talking about it already? The Packers have. They have a great deal of faith in Aaron Rodgers and have drafted a capable backup in Brian Brohm. They haven't won a title with Favre at the helm in over a decade. Putting him back into the lineup just delays the future or the franchise post-Favre for another year. They may be better with Aaron Rodgers, or they may not be. Who knows? The Packers obviously see enough in him to keep Favre at bay.

Favre is holding the Packers hostage, hindering their development as a franchise by asking to come back and play. He's vilifying the team by saying that he doesn't feel welcome in Green Bay, and the media and fans are eating it up.

The Packers have moved on, and accepted a post-Favre future. When will the media do the same?

Keywords: Brett Favre, Death and taxes, Green Bay Packers, I'm drinking the Favre haterade, media slobber, post-Favre
